CPD Certification Pending

Submitting my NSPCC Accreditation Portfolio has enabled me to focus on other tasks. My main priority was to finalise a new 7-hour session for XYP Childcare: Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Having previously developed a PBS session, I already had a course outline to work from. However, it became evident that knowledge and practice have progressed considerably over the past five years.

After a productive weekend, the course is now ready, and, as a member of the CPD Certification Service, I have submitted the session for accreditation. Details of the course listing are below.

This training session equips participants to understand and respond to challenging behaviour in children. Attendees will define ‘challenging behaviour’, identify contributing factors, and conduct a functional assessment using the Durrand & Crimmins Motivational Assessment Scale (MAS). Using real-life examples, they will explore the Four-Term Contingency model from Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and examine the five key functions of behaviour: reducing pain, sensory stimulation, escape, attention, and access to tangibles. Participants will also classify children’s needs using Michael Smull’s “important to/for” framework. By the end, some will create an action plan to strengthen positive behaviour support in their setting.

In accordance with requirements, I would like to emphasise that this session has not been certified, and I am awaiting written confirmation of the final certification from the CPD Certification Service.
